Preparing to travel or relocate to an African country is an exciting step, but as we have shown it requires thoughtful planning and the right documentation. Use this checklist to assess your readiness and gather the necessary paperwork to support your visa application process. Requirements may vary slightly depending on your destination, so be sure to verify with APM to ensure smooth processing.
Personal Documents
Valid passport (with at least 6 months validity beyond your planned stay)
Passport-sized photos (check country-specific photo size and background requirements)
Completed visa application form
Copy of birth certificate or national ID (if required)
Supporting Documents
Travel itinerary or return flight reservation
Proof of accommodation (hotel booking, invitation letter, or lease agreement)
Bank statements (usually the last 3–6 months to show proof of sufficient funds)
Employment verification letter or proof of self-employment/business
Yellow fever vaccination card (required for many African countries)
Travel insurance (including health coverage)
If You’re Planning to Move (Long-Term or Repatriate)
Letter of intent or reason for relocation (e.g. retirement, business, study, or repatriation)
Proof of investment or business plan (for entrepreneur visas)
Police clearance certificate (from your home country)
Marriage or birth certificates (for family reunification or dependent visas)
Educational qualifications (for study or work permits)
Letter of sponsorship (if being hosted by an organization or individual)
Make copies of all your documents (digital and physical).
Check deadlines: Some documents (like police clearance) have expiration dates.
Verify local laws: Requirements can vary depending on your nationality.
Schedule ahead: Book appointments at embassies or visa centers early—wait times can be long.
Language: Have documents translated and notarized if they’re not in English or French (depending on the country).
If you’ve checked most or all of these boxes, congratulations! You're well on your way to a smooth visa application process.
